Abstract

The world is spending a huge amount of money on the imports of biochemicals, biobased products and fuels produced from fossil resources. The increasing of population further intensifying the demand for fuels and bioproducts consumption and badly affect the individual life. The researchers now looking to builda bioprocessing technology for utilization of the agriculture waste biomass. Especially, the aim is for production of sustainable energy & industrials biobased chemical products at a cheaper cost from agriculture waste biomass. The agriculture biomass containing extractives, lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose, an
abundant source of organic carbon. To better utilize these carbons biomass, it is necessary to remove the lignin from agriculture biomass. In bioenergy and biochemical production the only problem is the lignin that binds together the hemicellulose and cellulose and makes them difficult to degrade into monomers. Thus pretreatment methods and biorefinery process are under hunt to convert agriculture waste biomass into different chemicals products and fuels. So far process such as anaerobic digestion, fermentation, combustion, pyrolysis and gasification of agriculture waste biomass are reported for gaseous bioenergy (methane, hydrogen), liquid fuels(ethanol, butanol, glycerol) and hydrocarbons. This chapter briefly described the background of biomass, composition of agriculture biomass, significance and sustainable methods for biofuels from agriculture waste biomass.
